Description

Course Target:This course is targeting R&D engineers from Industry and Academia involved in development, design and optimization of power electronic converters.
The Megatrends of our society such as Energy Efficiency, E-Mobility, Renewable Energies and SMART Grid are asking for Smart Power Electronic Solutions. Power Electronics is the technology associated with the efficient power conversion, precise control and conditioning of electric energy from the source up to the load.
Power Semiconductor devices are an enabling technology to meet these requirements. The major electrical and thermal improvement of the new generation of power devices is coming from the overall silicon chip utilization. Based on this idea the device technology development follows a chip horizontal optimization e.g. high cell densities, new trench gate structures and a vertical optimization to minimize drift layer and reduce the On-State losses significantly. This power device mainstream technology development is applied to all device types such as the IGBT, Fast Recovery Diode, Super Junction Transistor and low Voltage MOSFET.

The reliability and ruggedness of these new power semiconductors is driven by an advanced chip interfacing and packaging technology. For ultra high efficiency and ultra high power density fast switching devices have been developed. However it has to be considered that the application engineer is faced with new challenges of how to manage all the parasitics, thermal management and circuit set up.

Course Contents:* Introduction of Focus Application
* Basics about power semiconductor devices
* Fast switching Diodes (Freewheeling Diodes) and device limits
  - Dynamic Performance & Limits
* IGBT development and challenges in Application

Modern Transformerless Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) Systems

Modern Transformerless Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) Systems brahim Güne 1, Bülent Üstüntepe2, and Ahmet M. Hava3 1,2 ENEL Energy Electronics Company, 34794 Istanbul TURKEY igunes@enel.com.tr, bustuntepe@enel.com.tr 3 Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, TURKEY hava@metu.edu.tr Abstract Uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) are widely used to supply critical loads and provide reliable and high quality energy to the load. Until recently, on-line UPS systems with isolation transformer have been widely employed. However, transformerless modern UPS systems have been rapidly replacing the old technology due to their superior performance and size attributes. Transformerless UPS systems have utility friendly input performance and high quality output voltage waveform. Furthermore, smaller size, higher efficiency, and increased reliability are features that spread the transformerless products, rendering the transformer technology obsolete. In this paper, modern transformerless UPS systems with the 6-300kVA range will be discussed and their experimental performance will be illustrated. Input and output power quality performances, energy efficiency performance, and size/weight information will be provided on modern commercial transformerless UPS products.

Abstract – This paper proposes a low cost double
conversion power line conditioner with high frequency
isolation, high input power factor, full-range input
voltage varying among 90Vac-264Vac and 115Vac output
voltage. The rectifier with power factor correction is
based on flyback converter using the critical current
mode control. The inverter is based on full-bridge
topology with digital control implemented in a
DSPic30F2020 microcontroller. This system is suitable
for application with loads which require a high quality
sinusoidal voltage. System description, theoretical
analysis and experimental results for a 500W
implemented prototype are shown in this paper.

Lançado com sucesso o foguete brasileiro VS-40M com o experimento Shefex 2

IAE
27-06-2012
