About me

Dr. Kamran received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA USA in 1992 and 1995 respectively. His area of research was control of power converters. Dr. Kamran has several years of teaching experience besides multiple years of electronic system design experience working in industry, both in Pakistan and in USA. He worked with Silicon Power Corporation, PA, USA on the development of next generation power converters for US Navy during 1996. He moved to Pakistan in 1997 and started teaching at GIKI. He has designed and implemented large-scale distributed computer network systems like the toll collection and access control system for the Motorway (M2) in Pakistan.

1600KV Basic Impulse Level (BIL) Testing Tower


 This is a video showing three operations of Surplec HV's BIL testing tower. The BIL is a high-voltage testing device used to create artificial lightning, in order to test the resistance of the equipment to a bolt. Most high-voltage equipment are made to whitstand an enormous amount of voltage for a short period of time, about 10 seconds. This BIL tower has a power of 1,600,000 Volts, so it is able to test equipments that go up to 345KV. Watch carefully, it strikes three times in the 11 minutes. If you blink, you'll miss it.
