Cuk-buck2 vs buck converter SHOOTOUT-Dr. Cuk presented at the Typhoon-HIL exhibit at APEC 2016



Publicado em 7 de abr de 2016 Dr. Cuk presented at the Typhoon-HIL exhibit at APEC 2016 his Cuk-buck 2 converter. First the critical salient waveforms are confirmed using Typhoon HIL latest 402 simulator, which has NO CONVERGENCE problems and offers dynamic ON SITE optimization of feedback control loop using Hardware in Loop (HIL) concept. Dr. Cuk showed that conventional synchronous buck is bad for any large step-down and especially for 48V to 1 V promoted by GaN device manufacturers as the next big thing!? This SHOOTOUT and explanations by Dr. Cuk confirm without the doubt that Cukbuck2 wins handily! More importantly this is just one in a number of new converter topologies that Dr. Cuk is now introducing which confirm that topology comes FIRST and DEVICES come second and must absorb all the bad properties of the converter such a buck which is patently bad for large voltage step-down. Buck converter might be tolerated for 10% voltage step-down or no step-down but NOT for large step-down.
